Back To Nature

Recognising that some of the most interesting effects are the ‘accidental’ ones, here Chris takes his sketch book outside – dragging it through dirt, scraping it over burnt branches and using frottage techniques. Random mark-making and aleatoric composition are combined with subtle geometric forms (the latter a reminder of man’s inescapable overlay on the natural world). The work is a reflection on the co-existence of order and disorder – and the artist’s corollary: controlled outcome versus intuitive process.
